Michigan Lake Day – 3rd Aug

Today was proclaimed as a lake day. Chill by the lake, relax and sunbathe. Sounds like Mummy’s idea of heaven.

First we headed out to get a much needed haircut. Daddy and Elliott were on the haircut team, no Nathaniel – this time!

We met Mel who cut Elliotts hair along with running the shop, sweeping up and sorting out payment. As soon as we walked into the shop another lady entered and we created a 45min backlog!

Mel was from Arizona and came to Michigan after visiting on a road trip during COVID. The UK had lockdown, but the Americans were going on state to state road trips! Mel mentioned that Arizona had changed a bunch and all the “transplants” from California had driven the prices up so much.

The older lady talked to Daddy about living in Michigan since 1973. She came from New York and loves the outdoors. Unfortunately her husband died last week, the slight pause after she said that made Daddy feel how difficult that way. Her dream was to fly to England and research her family history.

On the way back we stopped for sweetcorn! Grown in the field next to the road, no packing, transportation or supermarkets. Just cut the corn and pay $7 for two enormous bags. Spoiler, it was some of the tastiest, crispy corn we have ever eaten. We can’t go back to microwaving sweetcorn from Tescos!

The rest of the day and afternoon was spent helping Trevor construct the biggest, most secure chicken house ever. Daddy worked his soft IT worker hands and crimped and twisted wires into shape. The chickens are safe from the predators and we are ready for some tasty eggs!
