Michigan Fenton Day – 6th Aug

We woke up to a surprise in Michigan, not more chickens sacrificed to the fox god. Rain! We haven’t seen the stuff since we arrived, we have been so lucky with the weather. It rained and it rained and it didn’t stop all day.

It was lovely and cool, but what do you do with kids who just want to play Minecraft and watch television? That’s right, you load them into the car and take them to a batting cage.

The first interesting detail was the battling cages where actually in a garden centre. We pulled up and took a wander through the garden centre. A women came up to us and said “you guys here for mulch?” To which we reply no, we are here to play baseball!

Turns out the owners sons are avid baseball players and he turned the spare warehouse into the batting cages. It’s quite impressive how little equipment is needed to get the thing up and running.

We booked two lanes, the first for the adults to hit softballs and the second for the kids to hit softer softballs. Turns out softballs balls are heavy and when they are fired at 30mph they can hurt your wrists.

That being said the kids loved it. Daddy wondered what it would take to setup a batting cage back in England in the same posh way that mini golf and table tennis have now taken over East London.

Mummy took to the baseball/softball like a fish to water. Something about swinging a baseball around seemed to click with her…

Daddy enjoyed it too!

We enjoyed a lovely meal before we settled down for our last night with the Emig-Wimbledons!
