Quebec Canada – 15th May 2025

Day 11 – This episode is called Bonjour Tom. After the long long day in Montreal we wanted a chill day today. We let Mummy have her standard lie in (post 10am) and got ready to hit the local park to burn off some energy.

Before we got going an amazing moment happened in Daddy’s unpredictable and checkered darts career.

Two treble 20s

We went to leave but noticed about 4/5 bugs lying upside down on the decking. They seemed to be alive…Daddy used ChatGPT to identify them as harmless rhinoceros beetles. They are clumsy flyers and tend to fly into windows and get themselves stuck on their backs.

The park was only 5mins away and completely empty when we arrived. There was a lovely covered section with a playhouse and musical equipment. Lots of climbing and swings for the boys to enjoy.

The musical equipment.

Happy boys, running around like dogs!

There was also a few French flares, like a pétanque court, but then also a baseball field.

The boys decided to scale the Spider-Man wall and get to the top for some pictures.

Mummy didn’t want to miss out so joined in the climbing fun.

Not sure what’s happening here.

The boys then met Tom (nearly 2 years old) who was super cute. He wanted to play with Nate even though Nate didn’t speak the language. Nate took Tom off and started playing with him in the playhouse.

Before Tom left, he asked if he could kiss the boys before leaving! The grandmother was lovely and started to teach some French to the boys. Tom was laughing and smiling as they left and kept blowing kisses to the boys.

We also captured a strong boys photograph for the collection!

We headed back home where the boys wrote their travel diaries and Mummy worked on getting the boys more books for their Kindles.

It’s been such great weather here that it was Daddies turn to take the boys out on the pedalo and coast across Lake Guidon.

We were the only ones on the lake for 90% of the trip, until we saw a couple on a pedalo heading to one of the giant houses on the lake. They parked up went into the boat house which was the size of a large summerhouse and got changed and then went to their even bigger main house! What a life!

We decided it was a perfect night for a fire pit so the boys headed off to grab some tree branches and bark for the fire.

We have got a good system going with different zones for the fire, s’more preparation area and clean zone!

Mummy came down after eating her dinner to join the fun. Daddy wanted to test a new technique leaving the chocolate biscuits on the stones around the fire to melt them even more. It worked like a treat!

Amazing

One thing that wasn’t cool is it’s coming up to Black Fly season and they are starting to come out in full force. Not so bad around the fire, but enough to annoy you when you are in the woods. Elliott was fed up so went inside, so Daddy and Nate had some time together.

We started to clear the fire away, but were treated to a performance from a small black and white woodpecker.

Lovely relaxing day, tomorrow thunder storms are rolling in and the humidity is going to leave. It’s supposed to be 25c tomorrow with high humidity, we aren’t sure of the plan yet. Need to check the weather in the morning!

Song of the day

  1. Gosh a lot going on on a chilling day! Phew! Strongmen!! Beetles yeeuw! Gagi doesn’t like them! Even though I wrote that song if you remember! 🤦🏼‍♀️ black flies! It sounds very similar to Scotland, lakes, forests, midges! What lovely play parks they have! The woodpecker, wow!!! Glad you told us about the sponge around his brain! I’m still not tempted by the messy smores though 🤣 Song of the day…french cowboys??!! Hope the weather holds nice for you xxx 😘

  2. Oh and double tops!! Nice 🙌🏼

  3. Bring some S’mores home please I want to try them. You could build a fire pit in your garden … what could possibly go wrong? Maybe best to have a firefighter on hand 😉
