Day 15 – Dorwin Falls day. Today, we had a plan and it was to travel east across to Rawdon to see the 60ft powerful waterfall Dorwin Falls.
As we mentioned yesterday it was cold today. The BBC weather gave us the light blue sticker which normally means winter time temperatures. It felt like November today, but the silver lining was no rain and getting warmer this week.
We set off early and drove about an hour to Rawdon, as we just went directly east and not via the big motorways we went through some very small and remote towns. Even too remote for Daddy (and that’s saying something)
We did pass some absolutely enormous houses that were facing lac de l’achigan.
When we arrived in Rawdon.
To enter the falls it was quite pricey $10 per adult and kids were charged too. After looking at the map we realised this place wasn’t very at all. The entire site was less than 5km and the top trails near the falls were super short.
They did have a lovely play park area with picnic benches in between mature trees that look unreal.
As we entered the park, we walked the 2 trail that followed the passive part of the river before you can split and join the main event.
The boys were in full photo mode today and wanted to pose as ninjas for nearly every shot.

It was super quick maybe only 10/15 min walk before a huge wooden platform appears that looked side on at Dorwin Falls.

It was a great view, but the second platform was even better placement. It included the indigenous Hiawatha story of the waterfall and the sorceress.
As we headed away from the falls there were lovely big rocks for the boys to play on. We looked at the amazing colours of the rocks and the ferns that were growing at the sides.
Nate developed a stitch, which made him very upset and angry.
Daddy tried to lighten the mood by picking up Mummy. It worked a little bit.
The boys had a play on the swings while Daddy took a look at the tree carving sculptures. Nate was upset about his stitch and didn’t want to talk to anyone.
We stopped at the IGA supermarket, the highlights were Mummy buying massive local sweetcorn for 20p each. Finding a dragon cake in the bakery. Daddy taking Elliott over to the empty lobster tank, then a young French girl speaking rapidly at Daddy, while he smiled and backed away. She could have said that all the lobsters have had a horrible disease and all needed to be killed, and Daddy just smiled at her like an idiot.
We came back and decided that if the wind held off we would do another epic fire pit. This time with the giant marshmallows we bought in Walmart. We started a test, but the wind kept picking up.
Just as we were finishing the test out of nowhere a large dog arrived and started running around the fire pit and the surrounding garden. Nate was in his element trying to lead the dog back, Elliott was hiding behind a tree crying. They are so different with animals, but it turned out to be the owner behind us. No garden fence panels in Quebec.
After the dog incident and the boys prepared the 20p sweetcorn for tomorrow’s dinner feast.
After dinner we went back out for fire pit part 2 and the boys had found the owner of the dog (Mark) and they told Daddy the dog was called Wilson. The fire pit and giant marshmallows continue to be a massive hit. Makes us want to move and get a bunch of space for our own fire pit!
We are heading to Mount Tremblant (Mount Trembling in English) tomorrow it’s an enormous national park that requires shuttle buses to get to specific trails. It’s not raining tomorrow so we are going for it, it’s going to be a full on long day! Let’s go!
