Day 16 – Mont Tremblant aka in an Essex accent “have you got two tickets to that mount trembling?”

Mont Tremblant is absolutely enormous and covers over 1,500km2 we only scratched the surface of where we explored today.

Our first interaction was with Roger at the park entrance. He spoke great English and Mummy seemed to think he might be Dutch by his accent. He told us about the park and mentioned that heading to a place with wolf signs.

Once you get the wolf signs, head to the Visitor Centre for help with the trail guidance. Park up and it’s a marmot again!

The centre was very new and had a few stuffed animals and a large wood fire in the middle of the room. People were sitting around the fire chatting while the boys took a look in the gift shop. We came away with:

And Elliott chose:

Planning before the work began.

The younger lady in the centre jumped straight into recommending trails with her highlighter pen correcting Mummy’s French in the process. It seemed a bit more transactional than in Yellowstone where they wanted to know what type of trail, what animals and how long you planned to hike for.

The first trail we attacked was La Corniche 180m elevation with an amazing view across Lake Monroe at the end. We were told that the other connecting trails were too muddy so just to tackle this one.

The parc is so big that phone reception reduced down to satellite service only. The scenery was Jurassic Park like and it’s insane to think how long it’s taken to be like this.

As it was pretty wet throughout the trail everything look even more lush and green.

The boys enjoyed what they always do, finding the best sticks to practise their ninja fighting skills with. Nate was explaining the different ninja training skills and belts that Daddy needs to work harder to achieve. Nanny and Den Den are working very hard Daddy!

The trail got very muddy at a few points but we pressed on taking as about an hour to get to the top. This trail was a go to the top and turn back, Mummy loves a looped trail.

We passed an older man with a red top and his wife who immediately said we were from England. His brother had lived outside of London while serving in the army. He spoke about how efficient the London Underground was and how he got stuck in a car during rush hour. He was so lovely and wished us the best on our trip and was so happy to see the boys smiling.

Slow but surely after a lot of slipping and sliding we reached the viewing platform which gave an amazing view out across Lac Monroe. Photos don’t really do it justice, the scale was incredible.

As we sat and looked out, Elliott said that is the real two tree island! It’s a lot more scenic that the two tree island in Essex.

We got speaking to a woman who joined us at the top of the lookout, she first asked Kate if we were from New Zealand! We learnt that she was camping for a few days and lived in Val David.

She told us about the surrounding areas and the parts of Western Canada that they had visited and enjoyed. Skiing in Banff and Jackson Hole in Wyoming. Daddy asked “Is it mainly older people in Saint Anne Des Lacs?” Yes, it’s more chalets and slower there. Daddy ended with “We probably won’t ever see you again so we hope you have a nice life!”

The walk back down the trail uncovered the diplodocus tree that was Daddy’s favourite.

The boys were excited to play on the lake as the boulders and rocks were so large it was possible to rock hop across and stay dry.

We packed up and drove onto the next hike called Devils Falls. Less uphill hiking and more powerful waterfalls. There were on a handful of cars here today, but in the summer it’s so busy you need to shuttle bus into the park.

The waterfall was powerful and loud, we were the only ones there so we spent a long time watching the falls and asking each other questions.

As we headed back, the boys wanted Daddy to carry a log and build a bridge across the lake. Daddy agreed that was a fantastic idea.

I know it’s boring, but the weather today was very cold again. If the temperature would have been 5 degrees hotter it would have been more enjoyable. Mummy was very cold throughout and was wearing two pairs of leggings!

The final short hike was to see a whirlpool and waterfall that was very tame compared to Devils Falls. The boys just enjoyed practising their spin kicks and sword skills!

We decided on the way home, that we would give the boys a treat and give them a Yes Day on Thursday. The boys were so excited and immediately jumped into the craziest ideas. We started with going to a shop and buying a grappling gun then heading to a pizza shop for a tasty lunch.

They need to give us the final schedule before bed time tomorrow.
